The client had 3 dining chairs that originated from the estate of JP Morgan and asked me to make 3 replicas so they could have a complete set of 6.  The chairs were made in the late 1800's and featured carved mahogany burl crest rails and back splats.   I made the replicas from black walnut, a structurally superior wood, and used reddish brown wood dye to match the original chair's coloring.  The chairs were finished with linseed oil and seven coats of garnet shellac.

Why use a mass produced jewelry box to store your precious bling when you can use a beautiful work of art instead?

The client wanted a farm table that could be used for entertaining, but folded and stored when not in use.  The challenge here was to make the design rigid enough to support hundreds of pounds of load and yet enable the legs to fold up into the apron of the table with no unsightly struts or braces that reduced the legroom underneath the table.   At 8' in length and 34" in width, this is a large table that would easily seat 8-10 guests.  Another challenge with a table this size is accommodating the natural movement of wood with variations in humidity.  This was accomplished by using free-floating breadboard ends on the table top, and attaching the top to the apron/leg assembly with sliding cleats that enable the top to expand and contract laterally without warping, splitting or tearing out fasteners.  The exceptionally figured tiger maple is finished with linseed oil, amber shellac and wiping varnish.  The legs are fitted with heavy-duty locking pivots with toggle bolts and threaded brass inserts for locking the legs into both the fully retracted and fully extended positions.

Solid Honduras mahogany desk and chair with matching fluting in legs.  Desk has cock beading on drawer fronts and along the base and sides of the case to add elegance and formality to an otherwise simple design.  The desk legs are tapered to create the illusion of splay, adding a graceful verticality to the piece.  Carved fans adorn the kneehole corners.  The hardware is solid brass.  Chair is adorned with hand cut beading along crest rail, back splats and stiles.  An upholstered slip seat provides comfort and coordination with the client's decor.  The finish on both desk and chair are amber shellac and wiping varnish.

I made 3 tables and a circulation desk bookcase for the North Smithfield Public Library.  I used White Ash and black iron pipe to create an old-school industrial look in keeping with the history of North Smithfield, and the location of the library - in a building once part of America's first planned mill village.

My Sheraton Writing Desk was awarded "BEST IN SHOW" for Furniture Craftsmansip - Traditional at the 25th annual Fine Furnishings Show that took place in Providence on Nov 6-8, 2020

Miguel Gomez-Ibanez, President Emeritus of the North Bennet Street School in Boston judged the show and provided the following critique:

"A meticulously detailed and crafted desk giving a traditional form a modestly new look through the successful choices of figured wood, veneers and inlay banding."
